A cookie is a small text file which may be saved on your computer when you visit a website. This text file contains information such as the language you choose on a website. When you visit that website again, that cookie is sent to that site, so that the website recognizes your browser and may know in advance the language you would choose.

Cookies generally have an expiration date. Certain cookies are for instance automatically deleted when you close your browser (session cookie), whereas others can remain much longer in your computer, sometimes until you delete them manually (persistent cookies).
